Background: |
FOLT1 is a folate transporter that is located in the chloroplast envelope and is able to mediate exogenous folate uptake when expressed in E. coli. However, this is not the sole folate transporter for chloroplasts as null mutants of this gene have no discernible phenotype when grown under folate-sufficient conditions and contained wild-type levels of folates in leaves. |
